PEI’s Junior Tennis Team had a standout weekend at the Atlantic Junior Tennis Championship in Fredericton.

Kensington’s Rachael Phelan came home with 3 championship trophies after dominating her competition at the Abony Fanily Tennis Centre this past weekend.

On Saturday evening Phelan won the U18 doubles event with partner Dara Rae Ross (NS) only to return Sunday to defeat opponent Jasmin Rehman twice (6-4,6-2 & 5-7,6-4,6-3) to take home both U16 and U18 titles. Phelan, 14, is now the highest ranked female junior tennis player in Atlantic Canada in all age divisions and will be representing Atlantic Canada in both the U16 and U18 Nationals coming up in March.

U10 play featured two of PEI’s rising stars with Sebastian Nguyen, Stratford, and Elijah Opps, Charlottetown, placing 2nd and 4th respectively. Nguyen and Opps later joined forces, cruising to a first place victory in doubles action against their opponents, 4-2, 4-2.

Also representing PEI were Cezar Campeanu of Charlottetown in the Boys U16, Maria Campeanu of Charlottetown in the Girls U14 and Maggie Chong of Crapaud in the Girls U12 division.
