Bringing Tennis to Schools

Tennis is an exciting and potentially lifelong physical activity. Students who play tennis maintain and improve health-related and performance-related fitness components such as agility, speed and coordination. Youth who commit to high performance training and competition enjoy numerous health, social and academic benefits and opportunities.

The Tennis PEI schools program helps about 4000 students in Grades 1-8 develop fundamental movement skills related to the sport of tennis while increasing their knowledge and appreciation for the sport. During May and June, trained Tennis PEI instructors work with the elementary school physical education teacher for a full week to deliver a school tennis program during phys. ed. class. Equipment is provided and available to students to purchase at cost. At the end of the school program a friendly interschool competition gives students an opportunity to put their skill into play. The School Program Coordinator will contact schools in advance to arrange a suitable schedule. For information, contact info@tennispei.ca.
